New Gear...
Over the weekend, I picked up a new PC. After only three years of service, my formerly new PC was misbehaving, and in light of the fact that Microsoft would be planning to discontinue support for the Windows 7 platform at some point in the not too distant future, I decided to get a new PC. I picked out a PC with 8Gb of RAM and a 2Tb hard drive running Windows 8.1. Settling into my new PC has been surprisingly easy. I had to pick up a few new pieces of software and I'm still trying to get my desktop icons to cooperate (I'm not a big fan of the new metro interface), but, overall, the transition has been remarkably smooth.
Unfortunately, my Cricket broadband modem doesn't support Windows 8 and after consulting with my local Cricket dealer, it appears that Cricket might be getting ready to move out of the broadband space to concentrate on phone services. But, fortunately, my new PC came with a Wi-Fi antenna, so, I stopped by my local AT&T store and picked up a mobile hot spot. It cost me just two dollars more per month than the comparable Cricket service to have the mobile hot spot and I can also use it for my e-reader.
