Toto's First Two-Eyed Pictures...

Image
It took a while to get Toto to pose for pictures post-surgery with both of his eyes open. But, it was well worth the wait. Over the weekend, Otto and Daisy went to the vet for their long-overdue check-up and booster shots. Otto wasn't happy about the trip and Daisy was grumbley, but, after a can of tuna all sins were forgiven. On the bright side, I managed to get a couple of fairly decent picture of Toto with both his eyes open. You can see that the surgery went well, but, the one eye is still a little more open than the other eye. Still, Toto seems very happy to have both eyes open. One picture was taken from the front window and the other in the upstairs hallway. Of course, Toto has his eyes closed for his first picture post-surgery. Toto lost some weight, but, once the stitches were removed and he was no longer encumbered by a doughnut, Toto began eating and drinking normally. Daisy still doesn't like Toto, but, now that Toto is no longer the doughnut-headed monster, Daisy h...

Mutter Museum...

Image
Over the weekend, Mom, my niece and nephews and I went to visit the Mutter Museum . I had seen glimpses of the infamous collection on various TV documentaries over the years and thought it would be something interesting to see in person. According to the Mutter Museum : America's finest museum of medical history, the Mutter displays its beautifully preserved collections of anatomical specimens, models, and medical instruments in a 19th century "cabinet museum" setting. The Collection began as a donation from Dr. Thomas Dent Mutter, who was determined to improve and reform medical education. The donation stipulated that the College had to hire a Curator, maintain and expand the collection, fund annual lectures and erect a brick building to house the collection. Since 1858, the College has held true to its p...

Toto Has Surgery...

Image
Toto, the larger of the two boys, was born with a birth defect where one eyelid is slightly larger than it should be. This condition (referred by his physician as an entropion) causes the eyelid to fold inwards leading to his eyelashes rubbing against the inside of his eye and predisposing him to recurring eye infections. The time has come to treat Toto's condition with eye surgery. In preparation for the surgery, Toto needed an eye exam to confirm the diagnosis. Before surgery, Mom and I took Toto to the Ryan J. Matthew Veterinary Clinic in the southwest portion of Philadelphia on the Penn Medical campus. Toto wasn't really happy about being poked by four medical students and an eye doctor, but, he endured the examination like a champ. Once the examination was over, Toto, couldn't wait to get back in the carrier and get back home. Once Toto was back home, he crawled under the sofa and decided that he didn't want to be bothered for a while. But, after I bribed him with...
