I had to create a custom headboard for Mom's bed. For the headboard, we needed a sheet of plywood, a common 2x4, and an assortment of screws, bolts, nuts and washers. I had the fine folks at my local home center, cut a standard 4x8 foot sheet of plywood into two pieces with one piece being 48x60 inches and also cut a common 8 foot 2x4 into two pieces, each 4 feet long. The 2x4 pieces would be used as posts to support to headboard and the plywood would be stretched between the two posts. I used the smaller scrap piece of plywood in a sandwich to stiffen the space between the posts. Screws were used to attach the plywood to the posts and short bolts were used to sandwich the pieces of plywood together. Longer bolts were used to attach the headboard to the bed frame. Mom then wrapped the headboard with padded foam and fabric. It took a whole day to get everything done, but, Mom is very happy with the result. The total cost was less than $40.
