Thanksgiving 2010...

On Tuesday (turkey day minus two), Tony stopped by to prepare the turkey. Mom also worked out most of the menu for turkey day. There would be a record number of pies and cakes this year, along with the usual Thanksgiving fare -- turkey, ham, red rice with beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, tuna salad, lasagna, deviled eggs and stuffing.

On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, Mom decided to do all of her baking -- this year Mom would make eight pies and cakes. Among this year's delicacies were lemon meringue pie, a couple of raspberry cheese cakes, a pineapple upside-down cake, a double-chocolate cream-filled cake, a fruit tart, a plain cheese cake, a pumpkin pie, a pecan pie and an apple crumb pie -- by the way, the pecan pie didn't actually last long enough to make it to Thanksgiving day.

Thanksgiving day itself was very understated -- just a few friends and family. Charlie found a nice comfy spot under the dining room table to be away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday. Meanwhile, Daisy spent most of her time upstairs being an unhappy camper. This year's festivities were fairly successful -- despite a record number of pies and cakes, there was very little left for the next day.

On Friday, Mom and I picked over the remains of the previous day's feast and watched Black Friday unfold from the  relative safety and comfort of home. We also put up the fake tree and decorated the front window. This year, we opted for the new-fangled LED lights and they seem to work really well. On an unhappy note, some of Mom's decorations seem to have gone MIA, but, we managed to spruce up the living room with other Christmas nick-knacks. Daisy and Charlie tried out the new cat-friendly tree mat. Daisy has tried to pull the mat out from under the tree and she has also tried to pull off a couple of decorative buttons -- to no avail. The new mat seems to be holding its own. Also, Charlie rediscovered the wonders of drinking water from the faucet in the bath tub, so, naturally Daisy wasn't happy with Charlie being upstairs.

On Saturday, Tony was gracious in lending Mom the use of his car. Mom and I decided to go out in the afternoon to see a movie. Afterwards, we stopped by Pat's Steaks for dinner and then, a quick trip to our local Rite-Aid for munchies before returning the car to Tony.

On Monday, Charlie and Daisy decided to turn their attention to the fake tree. The two kitties decided to tag-team the poor defenseless fake tree. Charlie attacked the ornaments while Daisy pounced on the tree skirt. And, when the two kitties aren't going after the fake tree, they're going after each other.
