Daisy and Charlie...

In a stunning turn of events, after months of bickering, Daisy and Charlie seem to have finally agreed to share the house. A number of changes have been instituted since Daisy's arrival. At first, the two kitties were not very picky about which litter box they were using. But, eventually it was decided that each kitty would use its own litter box. After an incident where Daisy attacked Charlie while he was taking care of business, I swapped out their standard litter boxes for covered boxes. Recently, we noticed that although he had the largest covered cat box that money could buy, Charlie was feeling a bit confined, so, I removed the cover on his box. So far, everyone seems to be happy with the cat box arrangements.

The food and water situation is still a bit strange, but, the kitties seem to be getting along reasonably well while eating. I had separate food bowls, but, initially, Daisy didn't want to drink from a separate water bowl. So, I had the food and water bowls lined up on one side of the kitchen with Charlie's bowl on the left, the water bowl in the middle and Daisy's bowl on the right. I noticed that Charlie would sit in between and guard both food bowls, so I moved Daisy's bowl to one side of the kitchen and Charlie's bowl to the opposite side of the kitchen and each of them would have their owl water bowl. Thanks to my sister-in-law, Karen, Charlie gets ice in his water bowl. Since, Daisy doesn't really like to have anything floating in her water, I don't put ice in her water. I've noticed since I began offering water with and without ice, that both kitties take turns at each others water bowl. At first, Charlie would eat all of his food and as much of Daisy's food as he could get away with eating, but, since I separated the food bowls, Charlie typically only eats from his food bowl. I can tell which food bowl that Daisy uses by the tell tail food debris that surrounds her bowl -- Daisy is a very messy eater.

The house has been divided between them with Daisy getting the larger share. Daisy has all of the upstairs, the sofas, the coffee table and the dining room table and chairs. Charlie has the kitchen, the dining room floor and a small piece of the living room floor. Each kitty has their own sleeping nooks -- pet carriers with the doors open. Charlie and Daisy each have their own scratching post and they each share a third scratching post. Daisy sleeps inside two of the scratching posts or under the sofas. Charlie also has a cat bed to sleep in and when Daisy isn't looking, he likes to sleep on the sofas. Charlie may also sit on the dining room table to look out the window overlooking the back yard. Charlie may also wander upstairs from time to time. Charlie is very close to Mom and will want to be near her if he senses that she isn't feeling well. Charlie also enjoys window privileges in my room.
