Another Birthday...

A lot of things happened this past week. To start, I had a birthday. It was a very understated event. There was some food and the obligatory cake. I scored some clothes and bought myself some DVDs. I ordered a handful of anime from one of my favorite e-tailers and made up a wish list of older titles that I had on VHS. The movie collection now stands at well in excess of 2700 titles.

Charlie came down with the same something that Daisy had last week. I took him to the vet and I have to say that Charlie was much better behaved than Daisy. The vet reported that Charlie is in the midst of an allergic reaction. But, Charlie also had an infection. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic to be taken orally. It seemed like a fairly easy thing. Well, Charlie had different ideas. Mom and I struggled in vain to try to get Charlie to swallow his medicine. So, tomorrow, we're going to try slipping the medicine into his food. Oh, by the way, Charlie weighs 22.5 pounds.

When Mom's long-suffering PC decided to keel over and die, I replaced the poor beast with a brand new, but, very cheap PC. I set Mom's old PC out on the curb and in very short order, someone picked it up and took it away. I have no idea who took it, but, I wish them the best of luck. Shortly after installing the new PC, Mom's monitor decided to stop working. It took a bit of troubleshooting, but, I managed to trace the problem to a bad monitor cable. I removed my monitor cable and allowed Mom to use it until I could find a replacement. Tony happened to stop by, looked at Mom's new PC and has given it his blessing.

My PC has been unusable for several days while I tried to locate a replacement cable. Wouldn't you know my luck, it turns out that a lot of major retailers have heard of such things, but, almost no one actually carries them. Now if I wanted to have my computer in one room and my monitor in a different room, everyone carries extension cables. Go figure. Eventually, I did manage to locate someone who actually had replacement monitor cables in stock and picked up the cable at roughly twice the going rate.

I plugged in the new cable and it didn't work. So, I switched my old cable and my new cable and my PC seemed to be happy with it. However, my PC also seemed to forget the type of monitor and video card that I was using, so, after several trips through safe mode, I managed to restore the appropriate drivers.
